PS pick-up signal recordings |
From this page, you can download some recordings of pick-up signals from the CERN PS accelerator. All recordings are zipped archives of four signals, the sum, X and Y components, and a square wave at the revolution frequency. Every signal file has a four line header giving information about the settings of the Acqiris digitizers used to make the acquisitions. The remainder of the file are raw ADC values expressed as signed decimal integers in the range -128..127 (The Acqiris has 8-bit ADCs).
The typical header format is as follows:

At 4.8GeV, protons accelerated in the PS go through transition. At that
energy, the revolution frequency becomes momentarily independent of the
orbit radius, and the bunches become very short. Because of the low-pass
characteristics of the pick-up electronics, the observed beam length
cannot drop below about 30ns, but the real bunch length can be much less.

An EASTC type proton beam near transition, (C316 + 250 turns). The machine
runs at h=8. Bucket 1 contains a small 3e11 p+ bunch and bucket 7 contains a larger
~3e12 p+ bunch.
The record is 200k samples long
and is taken from
PU63,
about 132 meters from the injection point in
SS42.
The sample rate is 500MHz, so the record covers 400us. |

A TOF type proton beam near transition, (C316 + 250 turns). The machine
runs at h=8. Bucket 1 contains an intense 6e12 p+ bunch
The record is 200k samples long
and is taken from
PU63,
about 132 meters from the injection point in
SS42.
The sample rate is 500MHz, so the record covers 400us. |

An SFTPRO type proton beam near transition, (C484 + 350 turns). The machine
runs at h=16 and accelerates sixteen bunches with a total intensity of 13e12 p+.
The record is 200k samples long
and is taken from
PU63,
about 132 meters from the injection point in
SS42.
The sample rate is 500MHz, so the record covers 400us. |
