PS pick-up signal recordings

From this page, you can download some recordings of pick-up signals from the CERN PS accelerator. All recordings are zipped archives of four signals, the sum, X and Y components, and a square wave at the revolution frequency. Every signal file has a four line header giving information about the settings of the Acqiris digitizers used to make the acquisitions. The remainder of the file are raw ADC values expressed as signed decimal integers in the range -128..127 (The Acqiris has 8-bit ADCs).

The typical header format is as follows:
0050000 Number of samples (50000)
0 Not used
0000.00781 Scale value, (7.81mV/count)
0000.10000 DC offset (Here 1V positive)

Measurements near ejection

An EASTC proton beam just after ejection of the big 3e12 p+ bunch in bucket 7. Only the small 3e11 p+ bunch in bucket 1 remains. The beam momentum is 20GeV/c. The machine runs on h=8. The record is 200k samples long and is taken from PU63, about 132 meters from the injection point in SS42. The sample rate is 500MHz, so the record covers 400us.

An EASTC proton beam just before debunching and ejection of remaining 3e11 p+ bunch in bucket 1. The beam momentum is now 24GeV/c. The machine runs on h=8. The record is 200k samples long and is taken from PU63, about 132 meters from the injection point in SS42. The sample rate is 500MHz, so the record covers 400us.

An EASTC proton beam at C963, undergoing debunching of remaining 3e11 p+. The beam already covers slightly over four RF buckets. When the beam is fully debunched, it will become invisible to the pick-ups, because they have to DC response. The beam momentum is still 24GeV/c. The machine runs on h=8. The record is 200k samples long and is taken from PU63, about 132 meters from the injection point in SS42. The sample rate is 500MHz, so the record covers 400us.

An SFTPRO proton beam at C740, shortly before debunching at 14GeV/c. After debunching, the beam becomes invisible to the pick-ups, which have no DC response. The machine runs on h=16, and accelerates sixteen bunches with a total intensity of 13e12 p+. (About 8e11 p+/bunch.) The record is 200k samples long and is taken from PU63, about 132 meters from the injection point in SS42. The sample rate is 500MHz, so the record covers 400us.

A TOF proton beam at C685 just prior to ejection at 20GeV/c. The bunch length is reduced from 50ns to about 25ns by phase-space rotation, trading energy spread against bunch length. The machine runs on h=8. Bucket 1 contains a bunch of about 6e12 p+. The record is 200k samples long and is taken from PU63, about 132 meters from the injection point in SS42. The sample rate is 500MHz, so the record covers 400us.
